Nicknames
« on: August 22, 2006, 06:36:25 am »
Just thinking about good and bad sporting nicknames. Manchester United won their first match of the season 5-1 on Saturday, and our young England hero Wayne Rooney got 2 of those. Thing was, I was checking the papers yesterday, adn was reminded that the British press have seen fit to nickname him 'Wazza', which, IMHO sux. So I started thinking about other nicknames, some good some bad. Ones I like (from Man United, at least):
Eric Cantona 'Le Roi' (The King)
Dwight Yorke 'The Smiling Assassin'
Andy Cole 'Goal King Cole'
Americans seem to come up with much better 'cool' nicknames, so list your favourites.

Hard to beat "the smiling assassin".
He was brilliant, seriously never stopped grinning the whole time he was on the pitch, and was the league's top scorer in his first season. I worked with a mate of his from Trinidad once, and the guy sounds like a great bloke.
