Iraq: The War Card - Orchestrated Deception on the Path to War
« on: January 24, 2008, 01:08:13 pm »
Here's a website devoted to this study:

False Pretenses
Following 9/11, President Bush and seven top officials of his administration waged a carefully orchestrated campaign of misinformation about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq.

By Charles Lewis and Mark Reading-Smith

President George W. Bush and seven of his administration's top officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, made at least 935 false statements in the two years following September 11, 2001, about the national security threat posed by Saddam Hussein's Iraq. Nearly five years after the U.S. invasion of Iraq, an exhaustive examination of the record shows that the statements were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses.

Much, much more here.

And it looks like no one who matters will ever be held accountable for this. This nation will have to pay for this one day. :(

[sarcasm]But ANYBODY can make a mistake! They weren't lying! They were just wrong[/sarcasm].

I've seen this arguement actually made.

Well over 100,000 Iraquis dead since the invasion and all anybody can say is pretty much "Whoops.".

The majority of Americans have known the truth on this for years, if not the very beginning. Then again many had their own motives from the admirable to the ugly.

But between gas at 4 bucks a gallon, 'just another mid-east war' and George Bush a lame duck with less than a year anyway, people almost don't even want to hear the word "Iraq".

What do you mean by "the truth"? I think it is now generally accepted that Iraq had no WMDs. I don't have any evidence that the majority of Americans know that their government intentionally deceived them.

Of course there's no connection between Iraq and the price of oil.  ::)

I always felt they were lying..there was no reason to go into Iraq and this administration just came up with new reasons for invading another country after weapons inspectors and others repeatedly said there were no WMDs in Iraq.. That didn't stop Bush from coming up with colorful reasons as to why all of these kids are over there in a hostile environment fighting for what essentially is nothing.

After 911, it seemed as though many Americans forgot the ability to think things through..most of them believed any ridiculous statement made by these clowns..."They don't like your freedom"..."their religion preaches hate" all kinds of nonsense..

Bush should be impeached and held on war crimes like Milosevic. This administration has done nothing but blatantly lie and mislead the people since they've been in office.

I'm not surprised, Tanks. I think we spend 80% of our time discussing the 20% we don't agree on.

The F.B.I. has revealed that in 2003 Saddam said he had faked having WMD's to prevent IRAN from re-invading Iraq. He never anticipated that America would invade Iraq over those claims.

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/US/01/27/saddam.cbs/index.html

Well, the price of gas hasn't gone down. The U.S. led coalition still hasn't left Iraq. Terrorism is still widespread. And the above report is about five years late. So I say to the American Intelligence 'good job' and 'F-you very much'.  >:(

Another bitter truth that has everybody depressed. Except OPEC executives.
