Why can't there be more than one Captain Marvel?

Really she'd be the only one. The Cap that's back from the dead won't be around forever (supposedly).

And anyway,  the best thing he did originally was die.

I agree with everyone. Miss Rambeau needs a new name and look.

How about Daystar or Starlight

Something like this, just with a updated hair-do.

no just no.  Monica Rambeau is a superhero not a video girl.  She'd being wearing something alot more respectable that this.  This is something for behind closed door fantasies.  Personally I'd want her to continue to wear something I wouldn't mind seeing young girls wearing.  Cleavage and low-cut jeans with her ass hanging out is just wrong.

I don't see what the big deal is. I've seen Storm, Misty Knight and Scarlet Witch wear less. I can't see her boobs or behind hanging out in the picture. I actually think this outfit would compliment her body.

Let's not forget she IS a cute and sexy female and she should show it off sometimes.

Compared to the outdated full body costume she's known for, a change is really needed. I'm glad the outfit looks nothing like what the White Queen is known for wearing which is next to nothing.

There are two Captain Marvels and Monica is not one of them. You think CM you will never think of her. I like the whole non codename ala Cage.

If it turns out that Captain Marvel (the red and blue guy) turns out to be a Skrull; and Gensis is dead; maybe she can be CM again!

The only problem I see with Monica as CM while others have that name is that she would become the "Black" CM or the "Female" CM rather than just CM.

Monica Rambeau is not Misty Knight, Storm or Scarlet Witch.  She's especially not Emma Frost.  As far as her breasts go, are you missing the fact that the star in this outfit is is a star-shaped hole that is exposing her cleavage?  But I want to do some further comparisons with the people you mentioned.

Storm-lived in Africa, in parts where nudity or wearing less clothing was the norm.  This was a significant part of her characterization in the X-books where she would often go completely naked shocking her teammates while not really seeing the issue.  This was a cultural conflict that often served as comic relief.  Monica did not grow up in the same environment.

Misty Knight- she was essentially modeled after blaxploitation stars especially characters played by Pam Grier.  The beautiful and voluptous Ms. Grier got nekkid in everyone of her movies where she had the starring role.  I'm currently 30 years old but found my love for blaxploitation flicks back in high school largely due to the legendary Ms. Grier. ::) Anyways Monica is a completely different character and should be treated as such.

Scarlet Witch- seriously did you say Scarlet Witch?  you mean the crazy white broad who up and changed reality because the made up kids that she had with a ROBOT no longer existed?  The former villainess who use to performed seductive dances for he father and brother?  No no can't be.  you must be talking about another Scarlet Witch if you are comparing her to a goddess. :P

Emma Frost-  The seductive outfits worn by Emma Frost are completely in line with her cutthroat, manipulative yet enticing demeanor.  She was also a former stripper.  Monica doesn't fit that bill either.

Look if there is a scene or two or three where Monica is in a seductive bikini or changing her clothes (like the one back when she was first introduced) then fine.  I'm not against the showing of skin.  I am against the senseless showing of skin for superheroines and action-oriented female characters.   How many women would go fight crime or even commit crimes (other than the sex-oriented kind) wearing a bra and panties?  How many women would wear low-cut jeans and a chest-opened top to a fight INTENTIONALLY?  I know these are comics but let's call a spade a spade.  These women tend to look like this to provide a sexually-gratifying and therefore attention-grabbing visual by their creators.  Hey if there is some in-story reason for it then fine.  Emma Frost has been one of the most provocatively dressed characters in
Marvel history but when it boils down two it the writers have completely entwined it into her character so as to make it believable.  Monica Rambeau however, not so much.  I just don't see how it would be in Monica Rambeau's characterization to start wearing an outfit that serves more of a purpose to accentuate her body as opposed to remaining functional, let alone the fact that it looks a tad immature/juvenile.  That picture looks more like Debrii than it does Monica.

The real reason Monica Rambeau is Z-list.

Quote
In 1982, Roger Stern introduced a new Marvel superhero, who he gave the (then available) name of Captain Marvel.

This young heroine joined the Avengers as a member-in-training, and soon rose in the ranks until the point, in 1987, that she became the leader of the Avengers. Which was a notable feat for one of the first significant black female superhero.

This was all fine and good, but in 1988, Avengers editor, Mark Gruenwald, had different ideas about the character. He wanted Captain America to become the leader of the team (conspiracy theories abound that since Gruenwald was the writer of Captain America’s book, that he wanted Cap to lead the Avengers to aid in publicizing Captain America’s title…which I do not think is fair to Gruenwald. It is just as likely that he just decided that it was better for the book for it to go down like this).

However, Gruenwald did not just want to have Captain America become the leader, he also wanted Captain Marvel to be shown as an inferior leader before she was taken off the team (presumably to further show how adept Captain America is at the role).

Stern, creator of the character, reasonably balked at this change, as he felt such a move would be hard to do without looking racist or sexist, and therefore, Stern, who had been writing the title for the past 60 issues or so, was taken off the book, and replaced by Ralph Macchio and then Walt Simonson, who both basically followed Gruenwald’s prescribed plot path (until Simonson then took the book in his own direction).

Which is a shame, as the decision really took Captain Marvel, who at the time had become as mainstream as you could get, off the road of “mainstream” basically for good.

I always thought Shining Star would be a cool name for her.  Either that, or go back to Photon, since no one's using it anyway.

I am aware of what is in the picture, I posted it. Most outfits that woman wear show a little cleavage. As a woman I don't see anything wrong with it.

Her breast nor is her behind hanging out. Also I never said she was any of those characters. I brought up Storm and Misty because they are both of African decent, and they both wear outfits either showing their stomachs or cleavage it's not a big deal to me as long as their behinds or breast are not fully exposed. As of late Storm has been seen on the covers and in some issues of Uncanny X-Men in what looks like a bikini type outfit, I thought she looked a bit over exposed but hey comics are for the most part a male driven industry. I would not expect Monica to wear something like that.

As for Scarlet Witch, she was a fellow Avenger, that's why I brought up her name. Not the fact that she's crazy or white, so I don't know what your talking about. Many would say that Wanda is a goddess in her own way. I mean come on, having the power to bend reality to your own whim is pretty phenomenal. :P

I for one would like to see Monica display a cute and playful side to her character, if that means her wearing an outfit/uniform that would show her feeling sexy and cute then fine, as long as it's not overdone. If she's feeling sad and alone during a certain time in her life, that can be displayed in what she wears. I don't have a problem with anything she wears I still enjoy the character, I just want her shown to be comfortable within her skin and proud of who she is.

I brought up Emma because I know Monica would never wear anything close to what Emma wears so that was my point.

I know I sometimes wear cute tops and lowcut jeans because I'm feeling a little playful, but I have the body for it, so that's a plus..lol
During my days in high school I fought with a girl in a pair of lowcut jeans before, and I was able to move around and handle business, but that's another story for another day.

I think your somewhat blowing this out of proportion, in the picture I posted Monica is not in a bra and panties. ::)
I do agree with you that somethings in comics concerning a womens image are questionable but again these are just comics and fantasy. I read and collect comics as a hobby, and some people would say that comics as a whole are immature/juvenile, so I guess it all comes with the territory.  I enjoy reading them for the stories they tell and how some aspects of the comics are re-latable to what I go through in my life, or I just use it as my monthly getaway.

I like Monica for being a strong female character with leadership skills, not for what she wears, though a change is needed. Do I like some of Marvel's treatment of her through the years? No. But I still enjoy reading about her, and would like an upgrade to her character, meaning a new look, love interest and story.

Again I don't have a problem with that picture, but apparently you do and that's fine. We can agree to disagree.

Have you seen the the outfits track runners wear in the Olympics?  Mighty revealing.  What about figure skaters, swimmers, gymnasts etc.?  My point is that again it is not about the skin itself as those outfits are all pretty reavealing; the point is that they lack FUNCTION.  I made a point to say she would not wear that to a fight "intentionally."  If she was out trying to be cute and then got into a fight then so be it. sh*t happens. (Plus I had a strong feeling you or someone you witnessed, had fought wearing such an outfit. Yes I'm serious.  I know I saw it all through high school and in each of those circumstances the young ladies in question ended being distracted by fixing their clothes why fighting so skin didn't get exposed.  Don't you know that is what all guys are waiting to see when women fight? ::)  But again the issue here is that those clothes are not very functional for the situation.    Wearing a track runners outfit to a combat situation wouldn't be functional either.  I understand this is fantasy but their is a way have her be sexy and functional at the same time.  I don't have a daughter but if I did I wouldn't want her wearing something like that before she is an adult.  My girlfriend however can wear that whenever she wants. ;D  You know it brings me to an article I read about a school dance where the kids had to wear superhero costumes.  A significant portion of the girls had to be turned away because the attire was considered entirely inappropriate.  When I think about the prominent female superheroes it makes alot of sense. :-\

At any rate as far as comparing Monica Rambeau to the Scarlet Witch...

Hmm a scene like that with Bishop in front of Storm, Black Panther and his mother? :o I'm not seeing it.  Not my Monica. :-X

Okay I'm just giving you a hard time. Just jokes!

Seconded. It's a good sounding name, and it's related to her powers. Especially as anyone who's not actually in the military or somesuch organisation calling themselves 'Captain' is a bit weird.
