New Mexico's Richardson endorses Obama

Hispanic governor says presidential hopeful a 'once-in-a-lifetime leader'

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23740104

This could help Obama with Hispanic voters in the states' primarys and caucauses to come.

Maybe Gov. Richardson is bucking for Veep.

That's a move I (and others) have called for from the Obama camp.

Nice to see things are rolling along again.

That's a big blow to Hillary considering Bill Richardson owes a lot to the former President.  It's some good news that Obama needed this week.

I've always liked Richardson politically, but he's just so boring when he talks...

Upon learning of Richardson's endorsement of Obama, the Clinton campaign or some associated with that campaign released a statement that said in effect, that the endorsment really doesn't help Obama, nor does it hurt the Clinton campaign since the peak period of receiving the Richardson endorsment has passed.

The Clinton campaign seemed to covet the Richardson endorsement only to make themselves more appealing to hispanics, a segment of the population they are already winning by a wide margin over Obama. Having already won states with significant hispanic populations and heading into states having small hispanic populations, the Clinton campaign essentially said a Richardson endorsement really isn't that important to them in future contests.

This pattern of "dissing" while downplaying anything positive to the Obama campaign - dismissing Obama victories saying that he has only won the "small states" while Clinton shows more interest in winning and does win the "larger states" and now, seemingly sending a signal that since the hispanic vote is already in Clinton's purse that the lack of the Richardson endorsement doesn't really hurt her chances with hispanics - has been consistent.

It's curious how few representatives of these "small states" and now the Clinton campaign statement that seems to suggest that her campaign only sought the Richardson endorsement to use his presence as little more than window dressing intended to make her campaign more appealing to hispanics, speak out. Why aren't these "small states" condemning Clinton for dismissing them as she has done. Now knowing that the Clinton campaign is using them as pawns, how will the latino vote respond?

The popular view was that when Richardson was running for POTUS, he had what 1 to 2% of the hispanic vote while clinton had the rest and that their popularity with hispanics trumped that of a hispanic person! Everybody wants to be Bill or Hillary so his endorsement was downplayed although one clinton peon called richardson Hamlet

James "Golem" Carville, a strong clinton supporter called Richardson a JUDAS to which Richardson replied that the clinton campaign feels entitled to win the nomination/presidency. This is going to get uglier for the Democratic Party DNC head H Dean needs to show some guts and muzzle ALL surrogates involved in the campaign or just lay down for Mccain right now
