Recommend Me a Comic(s)

Whats really good out there? Maybe under the radar or under appreciated. Indie gem maybe. Among others as far as my tastes go I like the Panther of course. Also Captain America, Iron Fist and Green Lantern. I loved Stormwatch. I like JLA and JSA. I loved Alias and BOP was the first book I ever subscribed to. I love the Angel and Buffy series. I am an X-fan. I did the Whedon and read the Brubaker books. So what is worth a try?

Let's see, I would recommend...


X-Factor - This is the only X-book I read at the moment and it doesn't disappoint.

Incredible Hulk/Hercules - I thought this title would be awful after Herc took over full time, but it's actually kept the momentum going.  I don't think you'd be disappointed.

The Boys - It's the anti-BOP, but it's very interesting to say the least.  It's not for the faint of heart, though.

Manhunter - One of the best books DC was putting out now on indefinite hiatus...I hear it's coming back, so look out for it.

Sorry, I'm not much an indie guy, but if anyone has a suggestion...let me know.

Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's All-Star Superman. It's just pure wonderfulness.

McDuffie's Damage Control just finished, but the 3 issues should be easy to pick up.

Oh, and any of Kurt Busiek's Astro City books. The Beautie one-shot that came out a few weeks back was really good.

All Star Supes is a good read...but the book comes out whenever i wants to.
so by the time you get the back issues..a new issue will be out.

Damage Control is a lot of fun. i like the characters and i never knew these characters.
good stuff.

Yeah, I forgot about All Star Superman...It's a great read...the last issue was amazing.  It's definitely the best Superman book out there right now.

Well, some of the non-marvel stuff I buy regularly and would recommend:


Star Wars: Legacy.  It's the saga of Cade Skywalker, the grandson or greatgrandson of Luke.  The Sith have returned and they are legion this time; the Empire is back under the Sith rule.  The "rebel" Empire has new version of Knights, neither the "Light" Jedi nor the "Dark" Sith, but a "grey" knight.  It's an excellent saga, but you need to pick it up from the beginning.  Oh, and while Cade is a Skywalker, he's closer to Han Solo than Luke.

Invincible.  Classic super-heroes stuff but not classic.  Much more bloodly, but not gorish.  Fun and worth the read.

And one I haven't read the new, but plan to:  Firebreather.  He had a mini a few years ago which I highly enjoyed, so I'm looking foward to the ongoing.  (Firebreather is the son of a dragon (think Godzilla and Fin Fan Foom in one) and a human.)

(In house; try out Nova or the New Guardians of the Galaxy.  The latter hasn't come out yet, but it spins out of Annihlation: Conquest, which is a good start IMO.)

another book I would HIGHLY recommend is Strangers in Paradise.  I know its not for everyone and might even be considered more a soap opera, but its become one of my favorite books of all time.  I just dropped abut 63 bucks on amazon to by the entire series in trades....great deal.

Let me recommend you a comic or two: Tangent Superman Reign and Checkmate. Tangent Earth's Superman is a black guy and he has laid down martial law. Last issue John Stewart and Wally West were sucked into that universe.
