Do you work for the con? I'm from Detroit and have been trying to get invited to Novi for years.

OMG!  You're from Detroit?  Awesome!   :)

But, um, sorry-- I don't work for the con--- but I can definitely email them to let them know you're interested, Mr. McD!!

Hey HEF peeps!  help me out, here!

email these folks!
info@motorcityconventions.com

(thanx, battle!) if you're looking for what to say, you can use your creativity, but I guess maybe a sample note might be:

To Whom It May Concern:

I'm a comics fan and I intend to come to the Motor City Comic-Con this year.

I think that Dwayne McDuffie would be a great guest to have at the convention.  As you probably know, he's been a comics writer for many years now, creating Static Shock and many of the Milestone comics character, also writing for Marvel (Damage Control) and DC, including current titles like Justice League of America, and has been a TV writer/producer for shows like Static Shock and Justice League.

Oh, and he's from Detroit!  :)

Please consider him as an invited guest this year.  Thanks!

well, i've gone on other message boards and tried to drum up support, and emailed them some nice requests... they've updated things on the website, no mention of Mr. McD just yet.. sigh...

...Well, the cool thing is, I got to meet and get a signed 8x10 from Avery Brooks, aka Hawk aka Capt. Sisko..

We share the same hometown in Gary, IN, though he scolded me for not going to his high school.. it's all good, though.. he says he's mostly working on music projects now (an album?)...

(I wanted to meet Lou Ferrigno, too but looks like he canceled for the Sunday appearance; d'oh! shoulda gone saturday..)

Alas, our efforts to get Mr. McD there didn't work this time-- but all is not lost-- the motorcity conventioneers put on a fall show (though they skipped this past fall), so maybe we'll get lucky then-- maybe if we drop an email email or two a month, they'll finally get the hint.. :)

Sweeeet!

He's the coolest (and i know that's who texiera based his painted version of t'challa after) and you are cool for meeting him.

Which one of y'all went to Lew Wallace in Gary?

heh.. Lew Wallace was closer in proximity to me, but I ended up at Andrean the Catholic HS.. as for Mr. Brooks, he went to Roosevelt..

..Wallace (where 3 of my older siblings went) was likely all-white in Avery's day; and given that I was more or less a generation removed from my siblings, by the time I was getting ready to enter 9th grade it had become the stereotyped 'hood high school (and the gym was notoriously hot), my mother wasn't trying to hear that.. By the time I was in 8th grade, if I was still in the first neighborhood I grew up in, I might have ended up at Roosevelt, it was known to have better standards, etc; Glen Robinson and I came out the same year; he and Roosevelt took the state basketball title that year..
