HARD CHOICES: MARTIN LUTHER KING OR MALCOLM X
« on: August 30, 2006, 08:13:57 am »
Two of the greatest political leaders of the last century...we've learned so much from both.  But if you had to choose....!

To me it was always Malcolm X. Even if I never became a Muslim, I just believed in the principles he gave to the people. Every human being has the right to DEFEND themselves.

I choose... uh... Ah f*ck it. We've been complaining his choices haven't been too hard lately, and he up and comes up with this. Just for that, I'm not watching BET tonight.

True this is by far the best one yet reggie, but I would go with malcolm because he never stopped redefining the concepts of spirituality and humanity

I agree with Lion.  I can't choose.  They both gave us great examples of how to attack the status quo.  They weren’t afraid to state that something is wrong with our society.

this is yin and yang. impossible to make a choice. every debate  to the black experience in america fits in one or both of the categories these fine black americans put to us. they are the template of what approach to take in solving the issues facing black america.

The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King!!!  Love Malcolm X as well but he does not have a holiday.
MLK is a Nobel Peace Prize winner and thru his organized boycotts and marches he changed the world.

I find them equally important and incorporate both their "teachings" into my life at different times. There's no choice for me, they both are impactual for different, but equally important things.  :)

Agreed.  Both men grew constantly in their lifetime (both were killed before my lifetime) and both seemed to want to meet at some point but allowed human frailties to stop their unification.

Can't choose. As has been stated, they were moving closer to each other's philosophy (malcolm abandoning the Black separatism and racism of the NOI, King accepting that a more militant position may be necessary), so it doubly makes sense to see them as a pair, rather than try to pick a favourite (if I had to, I could, but I refuse to).
