heh-heh... the Local ABC affilliate here runs Matlock reruns on a regular basis, late saturday/Sunday morning staple, on odd occasions preempting prime-time stuff.. !!!  The program director must love it, or the baby-boomers & retirees in the metro area, or something..

God bless him, Andy Griffith's still alive..

I never really saw Perry Mason reruns while growing up.. Is the show out on dvd yet?  I do remember the reunion TV movies they aired in the 80's/90s..

I'll give Matlock the edge for having a black sidekick to do grunt work..  ;)

Definitely Perry Mason.  Plus, he had the better theme and Raymond Burr had a great voice.  Oh and Ironside is better than Andy of Mayberry.  ;D

Too bad Burr had to live most of his life hiding that he was gay over fear that it would hurt his career.

Matlock.
I'm a huge Andy Griffith fan... Sheriff Andy Taylor was that dude... and being from Arkansas, I always figured Mayberry (and Hazzard County's duke boys) were from somewhere in Arkansas.

Funny Matlock story... one year...late 80s... 88 or 89, all my fam was together and the tv happened to be on matlock.
my uncle looked at the screen and saw "matlock" and said, "If barney fife walks through that door, i'm leaving"

I kid u not...in that particular episode Don Knotts walked into Matlock's office.  Everyone erupted in laughter.
hahahhaa

PERRY! Man, when I went to law school that was my only reference. People would ask me what kind of law I wanted to practice and I'd say that I wanted to be Perry Mason.  Heck I still do.  Best of both worlds.  Get the good guy off and still find the bad guy.

I think Hamilton Berger won one case against Perry. I never saw that episode though.  Perry Mason is one of my all-time favorite TV shows.

From wikipedia:

Not known to many is the fact that Burger did actually defeat Mason twice on the television series—once in "The Case of the Terrified Typist" and again in "The Case of the Deadly Verdict." In addition, in "The Case of the Shoplifter's Shoe," Burger figured out the true culprit (after some nudging in the right direction by Perry). In the TV series the closest Burger has to having Perry Mason "arrested" is when he has Mason cited for causing a trash fire within city limits {Part of Mason's plan to free an innocent client}!

BOTH!

If I had to choose one, perry mason, but I think the point about Matlock for the country might be true.
