This is the SSCVR developed by Honeywell a.k.a  the "flight data recorder"  a.k.a. the mysterious "black box" usually recovered  in the rubble of a downed plane.  Intact.

This device utilizes a modular crash survivable memory unit (CSMU) for protection of the solid state voice recording memory. The CSMU retains the most recent 30 minutes or 2 hours of audio, digital, and timing information. Both Honeywell's 30-minute and 2-hour SSCVR models are approved to TSO C-123.
'I'd have, like, seen this much ice and thought, Oh, my gosh, we were going to crash.'
Rebecca Shaw, Co-pilot of a plane that crashed  near Buffalo, N.Y., in February, remarking on the wintry conditions in a cockpit recording before the fatal plunge

   Hmmmmm...
Air France Bomb Threat Before Flight 447 Crash
Just days before the mysterious crash of Air France Flight 447 in the Atlantic Ocean, Brazilian authorities reportedly delayed a similar Air France flight from Buenos Aires to Paris after the airline received a bomb threat over the phone.
Would you like to know more...?
Meanwhile...
Searchers from three continents are focusing on a remote Atlantic Ocean stretch where Air France Flight 447 mysteriously went down in water thousands of feet deep, leaving debris scattered for miles and little hope of finding survivors.  The Airbus 330-200 disappeared Sunday night in a lightning storm while cruising at 35,000 feet, carrying 228 people from Rio de Janeiro to Paris.

This is becoming a very sad record for the airline industry. I don't know if it's gotten worse or it's only getting noticed now.

Another disturbing phenomenon is the increasee in train accidents this year. Most recent were in Washington D.C. and in China.

Trains, planes, and of course, automobiles.

Jesus, these crashes just don't stop. Now Iran's suffered a plane crash with over one hundred dead.

And people were worried over so many airline companies closing last year...

There have been Helicopter Pilots coming out of the woodwork to say they saw a tragedy like that coming. With amateur pilots and Heli guys in the same air space somebody was bound to slip up.

It has been sugested that Helis should be barred from flying above 500 feet and fixed wings should be similarly barred from flying below 1,000 feet.

US Probes Pilots Who Overshot Airport By 150 Miles
Wake Me Up When It's All Over...
California - The US National Transportation Safety Board said controllers lost radio contact late Wednesday with the Northwest Airlines flight heading from San Diego, California to Minneapolis, Minnesota.

A Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) spokesman in Minneapolis confirmed that the agency had launched its own investigation into the incident, but declined to comment further.

Northwest Airlines pilot Richard Cole denied any naps were taken.

"I can assure you none of us was asleep," Cole told ABC News, adding that he was "not doing very good."

Pilot sought after 2 F-16s collide off South Carolina coast

There goes $48,321,252 in flames...!

Charleston, South Carolina - Crews searched more than 750 square miles of the Atlantic on Friday for an F-16 fighter pilot whose plane hit another fighter mid-air during night training exercises off the South Carolina coast.

The two planes collided Thursday around 8:30 p.m. about 40 miles off Folly Beach, near Charleston, said Senior Master Sgt. Brad Fallin at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter. Both jets, based at Shaw, are single-seat aircraft.

One jet, piloted by Capt. Lee Bryant, landed safely at Charleston Air Force Base, Fallin said. Bryant was examined at the base but had suffered no injuries and was released, Fallin said. The spokesman did not know where Bryant was early Friday.

Search crews had not yet found the missing plane or its pilot, Capt. Nicholas Giglio, Fallin said.

The F-16 cost the U.S. $18,800,000 when it came into service in 1978.  As of 2007, it cost the U.S. $24,160,626 per unit. If pilots are gonna crash multi-million dollar planes like this, Isn't It Time To Retire This Bird?!?
