A couple days ago I read that "The Game" (from the wonderful Mara Brock-Akil, Girlfriends) will be coming to BET this February.
That's a good look for BET because I love the show.

I can't believe they cancelled "Girlfriends" but kept "The Game On." I was mad when they cancelled my Maya Wilkes...what's up with that? ?? I was hoping they'd spin sexy and sassy Maya off into her show so that I could tune in to her weekly goodness, but apparently that was not in the cards!!! And on "The Game," I hated how they had Melanie or whatever her name is (the one in med school) who took back the idiot who cheated on her (Derwin). I thought that sent a VERY negative message to any young African-American/African girls or women watching that show. And of course one of the African-American women on that show (Tasha, is it?) has to be stereotypically loud and ghetto-acting...so much so that one of the episodes had a guy dumping her because of her "attitude" towards people. And now "The Game" is coming to BET...which already has a lot of comedies on there where people laugh at us. I'm just sick of ALL the African-American comedies...can't we do ANYTHING else besides those? ? And don't even get me started on Tyler Perry's "Madea" movies. Please, Lord, don't let me get started, Amen.

i hear you about the Game...but it is much better than what you're oversimplifying it to be.
It is a great step up from Girlfriends...Girlfriends had overstayed its welcome and it needed to go at least 1-2 seasons ago.

There is a lot of chatter...and i mean A LOT OF CHATTER about BET picking up Season 4 of the game. if that's true, then things are about to change for BET. theyll become relevant again. I even read a quote from the CEO saying that BET is gonna focus on original scripted series. well, u know that got me hot under the collar when i read that after the way they treated Somebodies...but hey, more scripted series is a great thing.
TV One must really be giving them a run for their money.

Man I didn't sleep on the Game, but it seemed like I saw the same ones everytime I tried to watch it. Today they had a marathon and I got into it. It was waaaaay better than Girlfriends' last two seasons. I didn't really want to give it a chance because it replaced Half & Half. I still miss seeing Essence Atkin's fine @ss every week. The scene in the hotel hallway with Med School and Tasha Mack in lingerie changed my mind.

We should be hearing something by early next week...according to my sources. it has taken BET a full year to get the negotiations done. No word on the cast, etc. next week...stay tuned.

The only reason girlfriend start becoming boring is cause Jill Marie Jones (Toni Child) left the show, which thrown the show's excellent dynamic off. I heard Jill left cause Tracee Ross & her didnt get along (it must have been a light skin & dark skin thang).....

hahahahaha... contract disputes my friend. the plan was for jill and the rest of the ladies to go in as a united front to ask for more money. how about e'eryone else changed their minds without tellin' her, so she went in solo...lookin' all crazy...blah blah blah.
but this is hollywood so there could be a few stories floatin' around. shucks, i heard she was supposed to be coming back, too!

Even if that is true, why did they discuss amongst themselves not to go through with it but not include her? That's old fashioned sabotage right there. Why would she be worth sabotaging if they didn't like her? Sucks cause I liked the dynamic Toni brought to the group as well. If its NOT true, well, guess we'll never know why then.

It's official...or it soon will be once the BET Upfronts are completed: THE GAME - By popular demand, BET answers the prayers of Sabres fans everywhere. New episodes of THE GAME will be produced by and air exclusively on BET. After enjoying record ratings in syndication, THE GAME, created by Mara Brock Akil and executive produced by Kelsey Grammer and Salim Akil, will follow the lives of the fictitious San Diego Sabres-and the women who love them. SCHEDULED TO PREMIERE 4Q 2010 for more info about all the other great programs that will be coming to BET, go to futoncritic.com or click this link: http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2010/04/14/bet-networks-unveils-new-african-american-consumer-market-research-and-new-programming-at-2010-upfront-presentation/20100414bet01/But check this quote out that made me raise an eyebrow. In my opinion, it sounds like it is an idea that BET JUST came up with: " This year, we decided to add scripted shows to our strategy mix of reality programming, acquisitions and movies," said Loretha Jones, President of Original Programming at BET Networks. "We're pretty confident our upcoming slate of programming has a little something for everybody." How soon we forget about SOMEBODIES.
