I'm gradually being left behind on a regular basis in this world.

The first console I had at home was a Christmas gift of
Intellivision circa '81 that eventually burned out a few years later; Mattel apparently sold the brand and the console was briefly revived in the late 80s and I received a second one for XMas again. I held onto that console for years, pulling it out every now and then, until finally selling it as-is about three years ago.
I only bought a NES console at the tail end of my senior year in high school, when the
Genesis was already out and the
Super NES was months away. I only got to try out a handful of games for the NES before leaving it at home when I tried my first stint in college..
All the consoles of the 1990s passed me by. I would try out the demonstration models in retail stores, but that's it, lol. But I guess it's a good thing I never bothered with a
NeoGeo or a
Sega Saturn?

The
Playstation 2 was already a big deal by the time I traded in boxes worth of comics for a PS1 system and a few games. I guess I rolled with it for a year or so before eventually purchasing a PS2. Then I sold both of them a few years later when money got tight; I ended up buying one of the slim-model PS2 consoles some months later. I gradually bought a bunch of games, but it seems like I was primarily using it as a DVD player. (Anyone remember when Gamestop sold movies?) I guess it was about 18 months ago when I sold it and the stack of games I had. So long,
Madden games. So long,
Def Jam Vendetta 2.
In the meanwhile, I've never owned an
X-Box or the upgrades, none of the 'modern' Nintendo systems, and I'm floored that PS3's are now passe', apparently.
I'll browse around in the big box retailers, and I see the new systems themselves at $350+ (granted they often come with 1-2 games now), and the controllers are $50--and of course, you 'must' buy one since it's been a standard for years now to just include one controller with the console-- New games typically retail for what, $60? Whoa....
I was intrigued from afar by the
Disney Infinity line-- certainly they had lots of neat micro sculptures of the characters (I've never bought any)-- then of course, that entire program got scrapped earlier this year.
I've still got an analog TV in my room. Wondering if it's even worth attempting to explore this stuff anymore.
