The input I offer is in reply to page one post by jefferson l.o.b. sergeant about the song Wildflower ..

It was done by Skylark .. beautifully sung ..  in the 80's had a personalized license plate that said WLDFLWR because of the song .. at the time it felt as tho it was written for me ..

What a great thread!!    Lori

Brutal choice, both are great, but I"m going to go with the one I grew up with and vote for GQ's version.

Here's my rankings:
1. Al Green - a classic by a master. The definitive version.
2. Seal - I like the arrangement and his interpretation. Definitely smart to not do this like Rev. Green.
3. UB40 - although the vocal performance is mediocre, I like the arrangement.
4. Etta James - kind of a blah arrangement but she's still Etta James.
5. MJ - is that a Casio?

Thanks for posting these. I didn't realize Etta James had a version of this song and I had forgotten about Michael Jackson's (with good reason).

Etta James's performance helps listeners understand why Al Green's definitive version is so seductive.
It's how she says it when she demands,
♫"I want you to TEACH ME!"

Didn't know there were cover versions of The System's "Don't Disturb This Groove" until now.

Anyway, the original version:
