We are a few seasons past Reggie's tenure at BET and I thought It would be interesting to examine what has been left in the aftermath.

AMERICAN GANGSTER- A visionary work that was able to seemlessly juxtapose the mythology surrounding these criminals while displaying the sobering reality of their effect on the community.

Post Mortem- Cancelled and now on the Biography channel.

MEET THE FAITH- A great talk-show format involving religion in a non-confrontational setting.

Post Mortem- Cancelled.

THE TRUTH with Jeff Johnson- It brought the TV news magazine format to BET for the first time, It was a young and fresh perspective on the disconnect between the civil rights generation and Generations X and Y.

Post Mortem- Cancelled.

HOT GHETTO MESS- We never got to see what it could've been until the non-neutered episodes aired but this provided the street level analysis that really is never provided on the air.

Post Mortem- Cancelled

SOCIALLY OFFENSIVE BEHAVIOR- To me this was the best of the crop. It was reality TV without the props and outrageous behavior but rather an examination of the complexity that exists between morality and pragmatism.

Imagine if this was on the air now with the Birthers and Deathers in abundance.

Post Mortem- Cancelled

All of these shows just fell by the wayside and yet not a SINGLE protest from the usual suspects. Roll Eyes

how could you forget BET's first scripted series, "Somebodies."
Imagine how great it would have gotten if it would have been renewed for a 2nd season.

Aaaargh.
great thread...but it makes me upsad.

Yes, SOMEBODIES was great.

Maybe Tyler Perry can arrange a deal to get them on TBS. The channel is setting itself up for scripted Black TV.

They want to complain about what's bad, but not support what's good. I hate a hypocrite.
