Why did the attorney even release that statement?  Do they think that will make people care?

He should just do the time and get it over with. If he was that concerned with survival, he would've thought long and hard about what raping a 13 year old would get him.

That's a good question. I do wonder how much time he would be facing, if extradited. Given that he is 76, might be a life sentence.
I wonder if he thinks running was worth it now.

I can't seem to muster up sympathy for him if it did.  In my little fractured world, you molest/rape/kill a kid, then your life is forfeit...period.  No statute of limitations.

He’s a Euro. I imagine his defense was going to be “I thought she was fifteen your honor”. When he realized that wasn’t going to fly here, he bolted.  ;D

All joking aside French Intellectuals seem to have contempt for age of consent laws.

My guess? To him the statutory charge was the moral equivalent of beating a bunch of traffic tickets, and he figured he shouldn’t have to deal with that trifling B.S. 

I hope he gets a Judge who has all daughters.

BTW, what the hell is up with the French Intellectuals(see my wiki link)anyway? I knew Polanski’s attitude was indicative of something larger but this?

Where would possess guys like Satre to publicly endorse kid-banging?

It seems the timing of the English film An Education is really prescient.
