What Are The Odds?

Los Angeles - "The Simpsons" is giving one lucky contest winner the chance to create a new character for the animated TV series, perhaps one of the longest prime-time shows in television history next to "Gunsmoke".

The contest,, part of the Fox show's 20th anniversary celebration, is for those 18 and older.  It started Friday (yesterday) and runs 'til 11:59 p.m. October 24th 2009.

Executive producer, Al Jean says submissions should be “pithy and funny”, who will help judge them along with series creator Matt Groening.  “It’s gotta be a human being. We’ve narrowed it down to that much.”
The winner gets a trip to Los Angeles to work with producers and the show’s animation director.
The top entry will be announced in mid-November.
Entries are expected to describe the character traits, including his or her name or nickname; age; appearance; occupation and catchphrases. For example, Homer Simpson is known to exclaim, “D’OH!”

No problem. 
As you can probably tell, I'm a huge fan of animation.  I remember the first time I had seen "The Simpsons" in a downtown movie theater in Manhattan back in th' day.

I remember it part of a international animation festival.

There were several animated shorts like stuff by Bill Pympton,

Also featuring the first CG short by PIXAR. 

I think it would interesting to see if the "Simpsons" creators would accept a new African-American, female character.

As I haven't seen a Simpsons episode in about 12-15 years, It'll be interesting to see what kind of character is added to the cast.

A day or two after I posted this, I sent you a huge pm through HEF loaded with suggestions, ideas, and concepts to help motivate you into creating a Simpsons character to submit to the contest before it ended.

I try to make it a rule for myself to not send female HEF members private messages but I only do it when I have to.
Can you imagine my surprise when I hit the 'POST' button and discovered that you set a block.

I've always knew that the winner should be Black and a female but anyway...

Here is the winner of the Simpsons Character Contest:

Orange, Black & Jean, y'know 'ah mean?

The votes are in and Peggy Black of Orange, CT has been selected by THE SIMPSONS producers as the winner of THE SIMPSONS Character Contest. Black won a trip to Los Angeles to meet with SIMPSONS producers and an animator where she worked with the team to bring the character to life.

Her character, Ricardo Bomba (nicknamed “La Bomba”), is a smooth-talking ladies’ man from South America with a luxurious black mane, a chiseled physique and a voice as smooth as silk. By day, Ricardo works as a safety inspector at the nuclear power plant, and by night, he works Springfield’s singles scene – melting women’s hearts all over town.

Ricardo Bomba will make his small-screen debut in the “Million Dollar Maybe” episode of THE SIMPSONS airing Sunday, Jan. 31 (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
