Finally read a copy of BP #7 House of M
« on: September 26, 2006, 10:45:44 PM »
My thoughts:

I liked:
1.  The overall story was good.  BP having to Secret Wars with MAgneto and Storm being integral to that.
2.  The mentioning of "race" among mutants.  "No furry" talk show hosts lol! ;D ;D
3. BP owning Sabretooth. Classic imo.
4. Black Bolt!

I didn't like:

1.  Too short- My biggest problem as that it was way too brief.  It covered so much territory in such a brief time.  Every other tie in had at least 2 issues.  Personally I would have preferred it to be at least 3 issues.  (On that note I'm glad that BP is getting more than one issue on the Civil War events cuz 1 is just not good enough.)

2. Anti-panther?  It seems that this BP was man-whore who was fond of quoting African American slang"You go me str8 trippin boo?" ( :-[ :'(   <---I can't lie though, I laughed when I read it but still! >:( I realize he was intentionally made different in personality from his regular self due tio the House of M event itself but still.

3.  Where's the kingdom?  It felt like BP was the ruler of a kingdom with no other subjects/inhabitants.  Where were teh other Wakandans?

4.  Africa?-  Storm was Queen of KEnya but it felt like she was the Queen of Africa itself.

Overall the issue was a weak tiein IMO due to the expansiveness of plot but limitedness of pages.  1 issue was simply unaccceptable for that story.  Everything from the artwork to the story felt rushed.  Compared to other HoM tie ins the BP tie in  felt like a rushed and obvious attempt to gain readership/sales from the HoM event. This doesnt mean that the others had better stories ( cuz they didnt, BP's story could have really been cooll if it was allowed to expand) but they simply had more time to flesh out ideas and characters.

IIRC, HoM storm actually was basically the queen of Africa. Despite her differences with Magneto, she was part of his worldwide mutant government, I believe, and as such was overseeing much of Africa (Wakanda and the areas controlled by Apocalypse being the notable exceptions).

I felt the same way with Stars Wars: the Phantom Menace. But since we didn't see Ororo have any servants of her own, it's a minor detail. When Apocalypse invades we later see why the area was evacuated.
Do you prefer a hero who will confirm your deepest fears? Or a hero who will inspire faith in humanity and goodness?

Even before that though.  His castle didnt feel like regular Bp's castle.  It was all dark and medieval looking.
Oh yeah who were those ladies in the castle that fought one another?  That one lady seemed like she may have been misty   knight.

Thoroughly enjoyed Hudlin's rendition of the HOM storyline ...which in itself felt rushed...nothing to do with Hudlin's part of the story arc....Bendis' HOM was overblown and had way too many issues...should have been told in a 3-issue arc...seriously.

I wish Hairsine would return to the series.

I was on the verge of dropping this book before this issue, I wasn't liking it at all. this one made me think Hidlin could do the job, it was THE House of M issue to me and really showed T'challa as the force he should be in the Marvel universe. And you knew Storm had to be apart of this book after that. It also foreshadowed his relationships with Namor and the Inhumans, I hope those stay in tact.
