Still more of a match than Jessica Alba as Sue Storm.

He could act.

She can't.

I could go with RDjr as Stark.

interesting choice to have an vetern actor like RDjr to play IM/TS.  this came way from left field.  If they would have said Brad Pitt, ok IMO.  Brad's more a ladies man then RDjr, IMO and can act (Pitt).  Oh well we will see

The casting is so brilliant. I'm laughing at the pro-Tom Cruise fans.  ;D

Now, who should play the Mandarin? I hope it's not Chow Yun Fat.
Do you prefer a hero who will confirm your deepest fears? Or a hero who will inspire faith in humanity and goodness?

Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa would be a great choice.

The main thing that surprises me is that they went with someone that age. Dude has to be in his mid 40's. Hollywood usually skews toward kids and teens and trying to be "hip and young".

I am in favor of this casting, I would be even MORE in favor if they
cast Sam L. Jackson as Rhodey.  Sam Jackson's Rhodey trying to snap
Downey's Stark out of an alcoholic binge is entertainment gold waiting
to happen.

My ONLY issue with this is: Stark's a egotistical, womanizing
substance abuser and Robert Downey Jr. is a egotistical, womanizing
substance abuser as well. Where does the actual ACTING come in?

Terrence Howard is rumored to play Rhodey.  If true, the only potential pitfall I see is that Howard is such a babe magnet who could easily overshadow Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark.

I agree with those NEWSARAMA posters who argue you might as well cast Howard as Tony Stark.  He'd been an even better fit.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Terrence Howard has signed on to join the cast of Marvel's IRON MAN. He will join Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) in the cast.

Howard will play Jim "Rhodey" Rhodes, the best friend of Tony Stark, the billionaire industrialist who becomes the superhero known as Iron Man. As Rhodes, Howard will appear as a military pilot who assists Stark.

"The richness of the role and complexity of the character seemed to mesh perfectly with the type of passion, energy and emotion that Howard brings to all of his projects," Marvel Studios president of production Kevin Feige said.

AICN reported in early August that Howard had been offered the part.
