Without Living Color...there'd be no Chappelle Show.

Really?  ILC is a bit dated, but pull out the Charlie Murphy skits, and I'd put the Wayans' first two seasons up against ANY comedy show from the last 40 years.

And that includes Carol Burnett.    :o

Without Living Color...there'd be no Chappelle Show.

That's the truth but where's the fun in that?
Adjusting for eras and all that, this is a hard choice for me.
I think I like the Chappelle Show a little bit better but there was a lot of genius stuff and a lot of talent on ILC.

...like the sketch of  Keenan playing Jesse Jackson as the 1st African American President at a press conference. ;D

...or the "Wrath of Farakhan"  where the Honorable Louis Farakhan takes over the Enterprise! :D

I have to go with In Living Color.  I loved Chappelle's Show and ILC stayed around a little past it's prime, but the sheer number of characters, comedic talent and pop culture reference that came from ILC pushes it past Chappelle to me.

I loved the David Chapelle show.

But truth be told, with In Living Color you got Men On Film, Homey The Clown, The Malapropism Militant, Fire Marshall Bill and Vera De Milo.

The show broke both the Winans as a group and Jim Carrey, Jaime Foxx AND Rosie Perez. ILC also sorta, kinda broke Jennifer Lopez too.

The only recurring character I remember from the Chappelle show was the Rick James stuff and Wiggums the crackhead. Though Chappelle’s one-off sketches were funny as hell (the Black blind Klansman, the history of gang warfare with Mos Def, what happens to Dave when everybody leans he has money) and had quite a bit of social comment to it.

You really can’t say the Chappelle show broke anybody(So what’s Charlie Murphy doing now?). It made Rick James popular again but that kind of doesn’t count.

It’s weird how much In Living Color is intertwined with the era of conscious “happy rap” to the point that it is like In Living Color never existed either despite the show’s historical importance.

Keenan and Fam took a walk when Fox tried to tell them what to do. Dave had to flee to Africa to escape what his success wrought.

The Chapelle Show is more well remembered but that’s probably only because its more recent.

Which doesn't automatically mean ILC is better than CS. I'm going with CS cause it was very rarely hit or miss, while ILC was and that entire last season was amazingly unfunny.

I'll admit I know ILC by way of re-runs but Dave is just so much  more talented than those Wayans.

For some reason Frenchie and Wanda never got old, but Homie the Clown did. And that burnt-up fireman Steve Carrey used to do, he was funny the very first time, but slowly got dumber each time they showed him. I did like the "Aliens" send up he did. "Don't touch him!...He's got my eyes!"

ILC was a breakthrough and you knew it right away.

If you haven't seen the episodes, you really should. And let's all just agree that the last season didn't happen.
