KFC 'double down' sandwich
« on: April 12, 2010, 09:09:54 am »
http://www.foodgeekery.com/reviews/double-down-with-kfc/

Apparently this, um, sandwich gets to go nationwide at KFC restaurants this week..  Anybody tried it?

...before I try it, i'd have to find out if that 'sauce' involves egg-whites.. I am terribly allergic to eggs, i have had food items from places like taco bell that involved 'special sauce' and it gave me a fit shortly after eating it..

Wait, Hype.. that's not the ONLY thing that'd make you nervous about this thing?

This thing looks like a heart attack-in-a box.

Some folks have been making a big deal over the nutritional aspects, yet Burger King sells a TRIPLE WHOPPERŽ with Cheese*. That'll kill a person probably as fast or faster than the KFC chicken thing**.
*1250 calories, 84g fat, 1600mg sodium
**Double Down(Original Recipe): 540 calories, 32g fat, 1380mg sodium

I don't know if I necessarily trust KFC's nutritional info.  They do their serving size by weight so we have to weigh one of these things.  For all we know, one of these could be 2 servings.

Just like with their grilled chicken.  Grilled is less calories but their serving size is also less than their fried chicken.  Its deceiving.

I'll give KFC credit for balls.

'Cause its takes some REAL nerve to promote this kind of thing as folks are more health conscious now.

If I didn't know better, I think that this whole thing was a SNL parody.

To double down? or not to double down?

 8)

I just saw the commercial for this new sandwich. If I were to eat a large avocado before ordering this I could probably negate a lot of the negative effects.

They're giving people what they want. There are no guns, police or Avon Barksdale involved here, just a legal business marketing a product. If a person has health problems, it's on them to walk away form this....."sandwich". KFC will probably do great business with this in states like Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennes......hell, THE WHOLE SOUTH.

ah.  You're thinking of Tracy Morgan's skit about the "Meat Machine"... a modern classic.

I can only imagine that focus group - "Yeah, yeah... grilled chicken sounds great and all, but you know what would really make us happy?   Two pieces of chicken and two slabs of bacon glued together with cheese. Get to work on that right away!"
