AMC's The Walking Dead
« on: June 20, 2010, 02:08:06 pm »
Hey!
In case you didn't know, The Walking Dead is filming in the A!  No, I'm not a part of the cast BUT a friend of mine is.
IronE Singleton (fellow UGA Bulldawg alum, Black Theatrical Ensemble Member, friend) has been cast in the role of T-Dogg.  Tyrese was originally chosen, but negotiations fell through. Irone was seen as Alton in the hit movie, The Blind Side.
  Oh well!
A UGA bulldawg will be T-Dogg.
  That's what's up!

I just saw a screener for the first episode and it was awesome.  Basically brought right off the page and onto your tv screen.

Plus my cousin gets second billing in the closing credits  ;D

Yea Jes, right off the pages, man.  Hollywood got a crapload of scripts if they need...just grab a well written comic and there ya go.

from DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD DAILY:

Big Debut For 'Walking Dead' On AMC
By NELLIE ANDREEVA | Monday November 1, 2010 @ 12:21pm PDT

Following AMC’s most expansive promotional campaign, the cable network's new drama The Walking Dead launched with more that 5.3 total million viewers last night, the largest audience for an original series on AMC. In adults 18-49, Walking Dead garnered 3.6 million viewers to become the highest-rated cable series premiere in 2010. In addition to the original 10 PM airing, AMC reran the Walking Dead pilot at 11:30 PM and 1 AM for a cumulative audience of 8.1 million viewers. “It’s a good day to be dead," said AMC president Charlie Collier "We are so proud of this series, its depth of storytelling and the remarkable talent attached.”

Based on Robert Kirkman's comic book series, The Walking Dead was written and directed by Frank Darabont who is executive producing with Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert. Also joining the series as an executive producer is Charles “Chic” Eglee (Dexter).

One of the things I loved about it was how light it was on dialogue. That's always a brave decision to make in any TV show, but especially in the pilot of a genre show. It really added to the sense of desolation in the world they are creating, much more than any amount of exposition could.

Excerpts from 10 Questions, page 4, TIME, June 7, 2010:

The original zombie master himself, George Romero, will now take your questions:

Film critics  have hypothesized about representations of race in Night of the Living Dead.  Were you trying to make a social statement?  Tori Dailey, JACKSONVILLE, FLA.

It was 1968. We were angry that peace and love hadn't worked the way we had hoped.  But the racial theme was an accident.  Duane Jones was the best actor among our friends.  We were originally thinking of the guy as a white guy.  Duane was much more sensitive to it than I was.  He was more sensitive to the fact that he had to beat up this white guy and knock out a white woman.

I heard that story from Romero on the very recent BBC series by Mark Gattiss (League of Gentlemen, writer on Doctor Who and Sherlock), and I did kind of like that it was an accident. The fact that Romero simply wanted the best actor for the job in some ways is a bigger statement (for him personally, at least), than if he was trying to make a point.
