Thanks, Battle. Many things are falling into place. It's still not time to quit the day job, but things are going according to plan. The challenge now is to remain patient and stay on plan.

The most interesting thing about Griots II: Sisters of the Spear is the lack of submissions I'm receiving from sisters. I have announced that black female writers and artists will get preference, yet I'm having to chase sisters down to get them to send something in. So if you know of a sister with writing chops and an inclination toward african based heroic fiction, please send her our way.

Thanks, bruh. The artwork is by Natiq Jalil. That's not Panya on the drums, just a djembe player from the artist's imagination.

This is the first interior image for Griots: Sisters of the Spear. It's based on the story 'Death and Honor' by Ronald T. Jones. Artwork is by Charlie Goubile aka Charlie Fab.

Very different for Fab! I might not have recognized this as him...and I can usually do so.

So we selected the stories for Griots: Sisters of the Spear. I contacted the lucky writers yesterday and I'm posting the official list today. If you know one of the writers you probably already know whose been chosen. The next step is commissioning the artists. So far we have Charlie Goubile, James Mason (Mase), Stan Weaver, Jr., Glenn Brewer (http://www.glennbrewer.blogspot.com/) and Mshindo Kuumba I will contribute interior art. The cover art will be done by Andrea Rushing (http://andrearushingfinearts.com/). It all adds up to a book that will be a step up from the first anthology. Sword and Soul is here to stay, y'all!

Andrea Rushing recently shared with me the WIP painting he's working on for Griots: Sisters of the Spear cover. To say it's great is an understatement. I so want to share it, but I want it to be a surprise. I'm sure it's one of the best paintings done for a black speculative fiction book...no, for any speculative fiction book ever! Just take my word for it for now.  ;)
