Personally I hope he gets jail time. I mean c'mon, black men get thrown in jail just for having a canabis leaf at the bottom of their shoe. :D

Well.

According to his sales, black people don't value black girls either. Or hold their entertainers to any standard whatsoever.

No boycott in effect. No mobs of angry citizens demanding justice or, at the very least, straight answers. Nah. You can bump to it so let the boy roll on.

Pathetic.

To be fair, Redjack, Roman Polanski got a standing ovation when he won an Oscar a few years back, and Gary Glitter's songs are still played at stadiums everywhere. Elvis is still hailed as a genius; so is Jerry Lee Lewis. But I hold my people to higher standards. I could see it if R. Kelly's problems were ignored, a la Marvin Gaye. But this dude is practically CELEBRATED for being a pedophile - and seeing that he's not it to hold Marvin's socks, I don't see why. I mean, the man is terrible. TERRIBLE. What am I missing!?

(Weird thing about Marvin: more people had a problem with the fact that his woman was mixed, not that she was in high school. Check out old issues of Ebony and Jet and he's just parading her around like she's not 17 and he's not married. Strange.)

I hold black people to a higher standard than whites.

We're supposed to know better.

Polanski is a scumbag, no question and I haven't seen one of his films since I found out about the pedo crap. never will again. Ditto Woody Allen. Jerry Lee Lewis married his undeage girl and remained married to her for decades. As messed up as that may have been, it seems like true love to me.

All I know about Marvin Gaye IS his music. I knew he was a player but I never knew he got down like that. Elvis? I'm  with PE on that guy.

I don't think R. Kelly's blackness should get him a pass on anything. It makes the rest of us look bad when so many wink and continue to embrace him.

Yeah, but...she was 13. I don't consider him a pedo like the rest, but...13, y'know? And...13. Did I mention 13?

Marvin gets a pass too, but that's because I'm a raging hypocrite. He made "What's Going On" and sired Nona Gaye; f*ck all y'all.  ;D Actually, I think my slant comes from the fact that I was in the Army at 17, so I can't get too up in arms about his 17-year-old girlfriend who became his wife. Now his first babymama being 15? I got nothin' on that.

Real talk. It's EMBARRASSING, and it tells the world - and our girls - that they're not worthy enough to be protected and made a fuss over. For all the talk people have about BET and the message it sends to "the chirrun", I'd argue that this message is much more damaging.

It's strange. For some reason the news I got here on the case never mentioned the girl being underage. And since there's been little exposure for years I figured it wasn't a big thing. But now I wonder what the helll is going on. Long ago Errol Flynn got into similar trouble but it was revealed his moll was only dressed up to look underage. In R.Kelly's case the police have video evidence of an underage girl. What is up? On the Derek Luke show a white guest called R.Kelly a pedophile and the black guests just looked at him like he spoke heresy!  :-\

Not to sound like a jerk, but where do you live? (Or are you not talking about R. Kelly?) The entire case is about the girl being underage; if they can't prove that she was a minor, he'll walk.

BET cut out the part where I mentioned some of the excuses that I have PERSONALLY heard from black people. (Actually, they cut about 1/3 of the whole column.) I kid you not when I say that I went natural because my beautician was saying that "R. Kelly was just doing what any man would do", and I knew that I couldn't cuss her out AND let her give me a perm.

you have to be able to compartmentalise to a degree. rkelly is a rnb music geniuse and SOME of his music was some of the best "bedroom" bangers when i was in college but I agree as someone who has worked with abused females he must pay for his crimes. he is sick. he needs treatment and help. don't get it twisted society and probably a past similar to the girls he favor is in the r's background. probably some of the girls he has been with don't consider themselves his victoms even though they are. he will get away with this because a juror isn't going to send any man away let alone a famous one who sexed a girl who was 14 who looked 21 who is 21 know and does not consider what happened to her a crime. if you disagree disagree but this is what i do for a living. you dont want to know the truth.

From what I understand, the girl in the tape is clearly in her teens. I hear they're going to show the tape in court, too.

I live overseas, remember? In the Philippines. But why hasn't the American legal system made faster progress in this case? It's not Belgium, ya know?  >:(

lol i guess that depends on your situation doesn't it. speak to my lady fan or not 12 play she could tell you 12 diffrent ways ahem...i have said enough but anyway sure rnb artist could be a little more subtle with the lyrics as the artist from back in the day but come on some of the top bed room music from back in the day included lets get it on. how hard does the imagination has to work for that. plus when the r was doing his thing i was the man at the step shows :D now my old ass is like the dude from coming to america... that brother is good. and every body else is like what a soul dog. to this day i bump all of melvin riley and the ready for the world cataloug. :D

Ahhhhhh, gotcha! For some reason, I never knew that.

Honestly, I don't know. There's a problem with the fact that the girl and her family say it's not her. Word on the street is that they've been paid off handsomely. Most of the charges were dropped; I think the only ones that are left are the child porn charges. So he's not being changed with having sex with a minor...only with filming her. Why? Because he says that's not him in the tape. OMG HE SEZ ITS NOT HIM SO IT MUST BE TRUE!!!11

As for Michael, he was allegedly molesting WHITE kids. Can't have that!

don't beat yourself up bro. from a country that has the pagents like jon benet paticipated in and the rap video hos (that i lust after like every one else) pose as the role model for our young ladies. I am so glad that i did not have a little girl despit wanting one. just knowing the enviroment she would grow up in. i have climbed through a few windows back in the day so i figured i would have karma come back at me. kells is sick. he needs treatment but don't get it twisted just as guilty he is american culture and it treatment of its women is just as guilty. it is so complicated every women want to know that they are considerd beutiful but wants to be respected for so much more. if jenn was to honestly respond to what she would want more a diamond or a book she would pick the diamond and what she would want her dream man to say about her oh she is soo smart or she is so beutiful. i don't know her like that but if i know what is true for most women is that they would pick the diamond and the beuty compliment. just my 3 cents/
