Can there be another Milestone?
« on: May 13, 2011, 08:27:30 AM »
I'm sure SOMEONE has asked this question on the boards before, I haven't gotten through all the threads/posts yet to see. This has been a question on my mind for a few weeks now. Can there be another Milestone Comics? Is there another Milestone out there?

Start by defining Milestone.  A collection of black comic book characters?  Or a collection of black creators? Or both?

Does it have to be a specific medium or format?

The answer quite simply is, yes.

There are a number of notable Black comic fans who have the wealth, influence, and popularity to promote the medium to a whole new audience.

Rap comics presents, AMERICAN GANGSTER, THE WIRE, THE BOONDOCKS all under one roof.

Black/Minorities, creators coming together to create stories in comic form as a start. I think Milestone is a blueprint that should be duplicated and made better. A company that can possibly pave the way for future minorities in the industry and braking stereotypes. Not just black characters or creators but that could be a start.

No specific media Reggie, but comics to start I guess.

I think another critical element to consider is distribution.  Milestone Media partnered with a Diamond-exclusive publisher and gained better access to the direct market.  Is that as important now as it was then?  Or, are there enough other pathways to success that a smaller direct market reach would suffice?

The internet is a MAJOR force now Stephanie, and its even faster than a distributor and now we're seeing Ipads, and smartphones carrying apps to download books and such, PS3, XBOX, etc. There are ways to get stuff out there now. PLUS Milestone had a following that would support it I think. I met A LOT of people a Baltimore con who crave the underground comic movement. I think Milestone should come back. OR a company be created under that Milestone legacy, that's my two cents.
