here's what will happen:

STATIC may last a little while because DC realized they missed a trick when they KEPT REJECTING IT for a decade or more. And with no Dwayne McDuffie to protect him or the other Milestone characters, DC can pretty much do what they want. We can see how DC will likely treat the rest of the Milestone characters based upon HOW THEY ALREADY TREATED THEM. It's not like there are new people driving the car. Same folks. Same minds. Same intent. Same outcome. New pretty bow to fool you.

FIRESTORM - I love Gail Simone but, if Dwayne and Felicia's treatment by editors is any indication (and it is), anything interesting she might wish to do will be undercut or rejected. Plus, while she's awesome at writing women and off-model white guys, I don't feel as confident that she can handle a black man even without editorial meddling. If Firestorm does last it will be with Jason out of the picture or with a MASSIVELY reduced participation. Johns is retro. Firestorm is Ronnie Raymond to all the retro boys which is why they mixed Jason and Ronnie to begin with. The most powerful hero in the DCU can't be black. He needs white oversight. Do not get used to Firestorm.

BAT WING. Give me a f*cking break with this. You can knock TCHALLA's current arc all you want but all Marvel is doing with him is what they do with all their heroes at some point or another. he's not getting anything that Spider-Man, Daredevil, Moon knight and a host of other Marvel headliners haven't got in the past and it will PASS. meanwhile, DC's version of Tchalla (Bat-Wing) exists on a continent where GORLLAS are the dominant intelligence as a knock-off of one of their iconic characters, written by a guy whose writing is, at best, hit or miss. Why they chose JUDD WINNICK to write a book about an african man in africa is not only mind boggling but telling in terms of how long they expect the book to last. Not very. This one won't be around in a year.

MR. TERRIFIC. When John Ostrander (an actual writer of talent) introduced Mr. T back in the day, he was a PEER of the other hand-to-hand, detective guys. Not lesser than, not greater than. DC editorial has made a point of shoving him into the #3 slot over the years and, really, using him as a punching bag more than anything else. This current thing- "3rd smartest man" (after Luthor and Wayne, I'm guessing) is itself an insult. All it REALLY does is point the finger at the REALLY accomplished and interesting character of the Batman (just as Bat Wing does).

CYBORG worked fine as the Ben Grimm of the Titans but, again, what is it we see when we look at him and what function does he serve? He's not a real man. he's mostly robot. He's not as smart as Superman or Batman. Not as strong or fast as Superman or Martian Manhunter.  Certainly not as fast as the Flash or even Wonder Woman. He won't be the team tactician or leader. He will be relegated to the position usually occupied by Red Tornado. He's, LITERALLY, a token character to shut folks like us up.

I'm not trying to be harsh with you guys. I know you're going to do what you want. I just want you to understand that you're not going to get what you hope from this and "supporting" them is not the way to get that. DC is for middle-aged, straight white guys. If that's not you, you should get ready for some massive disappointment in the near future.

There it is.

If you visit the comic shop in Florence, South Carolina (the only one, by the way)  you'll see what he's talkin' about.

Wouldn't it be great if you mattered even a little bit. How you must dream of that day.

See? That's just unnecessary snarkiness from an unhappy person. Life is too short to be that bitter.  :)

Nope. That's a miss. That's the sort of thing that works on your peers. I'm not one of them. If you had come straight, you'd be treated that way. You chose to be a troll so you get that response.

No, I chose to disagree with you, that's why I get that response. lol

Strangely, others have disagreed and none of them get the negative response. Do the math. Disagreement is great. I would imagine the vast majority of comics buyers will not adhere to my view, but, and this is most pertinent: I have never ever been wrong about a DC move or future decision. I advised Dwayne not to get in bed with them because the editors would never allow him to do any of the things he wished to do. moreover, they would use the Milestone characters only insofar as they supported and reinforced the existing, lilly white, stable of icons. And what happened? Exactly what I said. The entire thing was a ruse to get Static under DC control.

I'm a pragmatist. He was an optimist. He believed in people's best selves. I don't. I only believe in track records and verifiable data. I don't believe in second, third or ninetieth chances. Not unless there's been some sort of life-changing event in the person looking for a new deal. No such event has occurred at DC comics.

There is NOTHING in DC's history that indicates they will suddenly and for no reason at all change their established pattern.

Yeah, I might be wrong on this. It's always possible. But I never have been before. Not once.

What about Derek Dingle?

I don't look for Marvel or DC to give me the true satisfaction of what black comics can be any more than I look to Hollywood studios to deliver what black cinema can be.

Not creative. He's the business end. All parties acknowledge Dwayne was the heart and soul of Milestone. Without his vision and, more importantly, his protection, I doubt you'll see much good come out of DC vis a vis those characters. Or much of anything at all.

I realize Dingle wasn't a creator but I just sorta assumed the deal that was made extends to him as well, as far as needing approval for whatever they do.

Wait and see. Dwayne was unique. I don't think anyone is capable of standing in for him. Without his particular mind making those judgments, DC will behave as I've described. They always have and they always will.
