I wasn't planning to see this in the theaters, since I have no problem waiting for one of the premium cable channels to show it, whenever that will be. However my daughter has asked to see this and since she was named student of the Month, I figured why not?
My only question for those who have seen it already: Is this okay to take a 7 year old? We saw the last Transformers movie and she loved it, is the action/violence in Avengers on the same level?

I would say it's comparable to TRANSFORMERS.  The action is intense, but there's no blood (that I can remember).

I took my 7 year old daughter and 4 year old son to see RED TAILS but it was too much blood for her although he loved the aeronautical action.

I am taking them both this weekend so we'll see how that goes.

I liked it. I have a sore throat from cheering. Thanos is up next.

THAT WAS THE BEST! DC can pack it up, there's no way they can compete with that. The only way it could have been better is if Thor wore his helmet. It was the funniest superhero movie ever, and it was loaded with cool moments. I've never been to a movie with that many cheers and audible gasps from the audience. It was firing on all cylinders, but the Hulk was the best part. This was the quintessential superhero flick, it was better than all the rest. Sam Jackson even got to save the day.

The Spiderman trailer was great too, the 3D was more apparent than it was in anything else. It was in your face so much you felt like Spiderman.

Batman's trailer looked boring as hell. It wasn't memorable and everything in it I had seen before except for the giant flying cockroach. Anne Hathaway as Catwoman was horrible casting, she wasn't sexy or exciting worth a damn, she couldn't compete with Michelle Phiffer, much less Halle Berry.

you are aware that film with her was trash right? She can sexy all she want but if one cant act proper it doesnt matter. And Shelly is meh to me. And if they had a time machine and grabbed a certain black catwoman then yes we're good lol

I don't look for Marvel or DC to give me the true satisfaction of what black comics can be any more than I look to Hollywood studios to deliver what black cinema can be.

Yes, I'm well aware that Catwoman was a horrible movie. Yet I maintain the onus was on the script and directing as opposed to Halle Berry's acting. As for Eartha Kitt I wasn't impressed, she was too over the top. Julie Newmar is my favorite Catwoman, there's just something about her.

He was willing to defy the Council and tell Stark there was an incoming missile, I also remember a certain well placed gunshot.

The manipulative bastard had them banding togheter using Agent Coulson's cards. That moment was a definitive one.

just saw it a few hours ago.. preliminary thoughts-- (spoilers)

one of the best experiences I've had for these kinds of films.  Lots of stuff for the principals to do, nobody just arbitrarily sidelined..

--The one stunt that felt a little "off" was Thor attempting to lay out Cap, which.. laid out everything around him.. absorption notwithstanding, traditionally Cap can still be slammed by the general impact..  But at least the Big 3 got to have their 'misunderstanding' battle before the bigger brouhaha..

..Pleasantly surprised at Pepper's appearance, I had heard at one point she wasn't involved..  Glad to see a brief glimpse of Iron Man underwater, I'd like to see an entire water sequence in a future film (Atlantis, maybe, and the film involves a sea prince..)

..Scarlett in her Widow catsuit got more than a few catcalls..  :-*

.. Tony's 3rd act transformation was cool.. didn't know what the bracelets were for at first..

..I wanted more Hulk, but I suppose the 'less is more" approach probably helped..  I also appreciated how he was allowed to go nuts on Loki.. (the segment could have been stretched out, though, heh..)

Memo to marvel:  Keep the talent that wins the games for you!  Bring back all the actors and Joss Whedon as writer/director..

At last, a cosmic villain is revealed for the next team-up feature.. wonder who will play him on film.. (I imagine "anyone" could have done the cameo..)

The post-post credits epilogue-- classic!

Sorry dude a pretty (and crazy) face cannot let me let go of bad acting. As for the Julie Newmar. I mean dayum. I wont lie I never heard of her but dang she was a nice piece of ass

The one thing about the "council" is how dumb can one be. You are aware sending a missile and killing innocents wont stop the "skrulls" right? I don't think a missile can simply destroy the cosmic cube.

Excellent.
Now, All we have to do now is wait for the announcement from the studio through the The Hollywood Reporter that they have already greenlit the prospect for a sequel.

Liked this movie;

Hulk rules this movie.

but I think this movie puts an end to an old comic book premise.  It used to be that comics could give you things that you simply could not see in the movies, because either special effects didn't exist or were too expensive.  With the last several super-heroes/sci-fi/fantasy movies made in the last decade or decade and a half; I think we can see on the screen anything that can be drawn on the page.
