HUFFINGTON POST:

Frank Miller: Occupy Wall Street 'Louts, Thieves & Rapists,' Comic Writer Says

First Posted: 11/13/11 02:41 AM ET Updated: 11/13/11 03:42 AM ET

Frank Miller has spent much of his famed comic book writing career creating dark, urban dystopias, but the groundbreaking scribe has little regard for the chaos he says reigns at Zuccotti Park.

The man behind such famed comic series as "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns," "Sin City" and "300," in fact, is entirely against the Occupy Wall Street movement.

"'Occupy' is nothing but a pack of louts, thieves, and rapists, an unruly mob, fed by Woodstock-era nostalgia and putrid false righteousness," Miller wrote in a blog entry last week. "These clowns can do nothing but harm America."

Though, for the most part, the participants in the now-global Occupy moment have protested the imbalances of the economy, corporate fiscal abuses and government officials' close ties to Wall Street, Miller mentions the War on Terror in his slamming of the nascent movement.

"Wake up, pond scum. America is at war against a ruthless enemy," he later continues. "Maybe, between bouts of self-pity and all the other tasty tidbits of narcissism you've been served up in your sheltered, comfy little worlds, you've heard terms like al-Qaeda and Islamicism."

Miller then implores protestors to join the military, or otherwise, to go "back to your mommas' basements and play with your Lords Of Warcraft."

In his work, Miller's protagonists often face off against corrupt government officials. Batman, in both "The Dark Knight Returns" and "The Dark Knight Strikes Again" is faced with heavy governmental opposition, with the latter featuring an especially oppressive and corrupt government.

In 2006, Miller announced that he would have Batman take on Osama bin Laden in "Holy Terror, Batman!" but later dropped Batman from the book; it became "Holy Terror," and has been highly criticized for being hatefully anti-Islam.

In a blog entry on his own site posted in September, Miller calls the book "propaganda," a sort of throw-back to when Captain America punched Hitler, rips the news media as slanted propaganda in its own right, and says, "3000 of my neighbors were murdered. My country was, utterly unprovoked, savagely attacked. I wish all those responsible for the Atrocity of 9/11 to burn in hell."

BLEEDING COOL:

Frank Miller writes on his blog;

Everybody’s been too damn polite about this nonsense:

The “Occupy” movement, whether displaying itself on Wall Street or in the streets of Oakland (which has, with unspeakable cowardice, embraced it) is anything but an exercise of our blessed First Amendment. “Occupy” is nothing but a pack of louts, thieves, and rapists, an unruly mob, fed by Woodstock-era nostalgia and putrid false righteousness. These clowns can do nothing but harm America.

“Occupy” is nothing short of a clumsy, poorly-expressed attempt at anarchy, to the extent that the “movement” – HAH! Some “movement”, except if the word “bowel” is attached – is anything more than an ugly fashion statement by a bunch of iPhone, iPad wielding spoiled brats who should stop getting in the way of working people and find jobs for themselves.

This is no popular uprising. This is garbage. And goodness knows they’re spewing their garbage – both politically and physically – every which way they can find.

Wake up, pond scum. America is at war against a ruthless enemy.

Maybe, between bouts of self-pity and all the other tasty tidbits of narcissism you’ve been served up in your sheltered, comfy little worlds, you’ve heard terms like al-Qaeda and Islamicism.

And this enemy of mine — not of yours, apparently – must be getting a dark chuckle, if not an outright horselaugh – out of your vain, childish, self-destructive spectacle.

In the name of decency, go home to your parents, you losers. Go back to your mommas’ basements and play with your Lords Of Warcraft.

Or better yet, enlist for the real thing. Maybe our military could whip some of you into shape.

They might not let you babies keep your iPhones, though. Try to soldier on.

Schmucks.

Responses have been… mixed;

“I have a good friend who proudly served in the Navy during the height of the current conflicts.  Ever since coming home he’s been struggling, eking out an existence literally flipping burgers…  When the movement started, he went up to San Francisco to help.  Now he’s using his experiences to write instructional pamphlets for the protesters.”

“You tell ‘em, Frank. Hey, remember when people were getting raped, robbed and shot at Tea Party rallies?  Yeah, me neither.”

“Remember the Frank Miller who donated to groups that supported creator-owned companies? The guy who printed “Give ‘em an inch, they’ll take a Mile” in big bold letters on the back cover of one of his books? He was talking about CORPORATIONS, not big government.  He was protesting corporations that exploit their workers.”

“The Occupiers are astroturf concocted by the white house and big left. and is composed of child molesters, rapeos, escaped mental patients, anti-semites and trust fund babies. They have no coherent message. but because they want more government regulations which favors the state and the very people they think they’re protesting against, they are nothing but tools of the very elites they claim to oppose.

“A man once told me there were worse things in the world than thieves and murderers. Then he got old and shortsighted and stupid and scared and marinated in the phony-ass tough-guy macho posturing horsesh*t that he liked to write for too many years.

“Get ‘em, Frank.  You have created more value and quality of life than your detractors put together.  It is people like you who improve our lives, and the Marxist dolts “Occupying” things who destroy value.”

“Frank Miller has always been a bit of a dick, hell its well known that the the guy hates his own audience but this take the biscuit. What the f*ck has the War on terror got to do with stopping corporate greed anyway? Unless Miller has share in a weapons company or something? I mean seriously WTF?”

“Thanks for saying this, Mr. Miller. “Illegitimi non carborundum.”"

“Mr. Miller, have you attended ANY OWS rally?  How is this not a popular uprising, even if they are self-involved children (a point I don’t concede)?  Do only protests with focused frontmen need apply, and no group which is making its decision in democratic manner (and thereby bifurcated) a legitimate force?  Are Tea Party Rallies acceptable?”

“The Outdoors We’ll Sh*t putsch is the public, adult equivalent of one of those enraged, screaming, and worst of all unchecked tantrums we’ve all heard at the local supermarket.  You know, where the kids are raising the “parents” and doing a predictably lousy job of it.”

“Wow. I am so disappointed in you, Frank.”

Frank Miller: Forgetting Where You Came From

Reading Frank Miller's venomous ramblings concerning Occupy was painful.  Oh, not because of the blind hatred at a situation he doesn't understand, that can be seen on any given day on Fox News.  No, because it tells us just how much Frank Miller has fallen and just how much he's forgotten.

He calls the Occupiers "iPhone and iPad wielding spoiled brats" who should “In the name of decency, go home to your parents, you losers. Go back to your mommas’ basements and play with your Lords Of Warcraft.

Or better yet, enlist for the real thing. Maybe our military could whip some of you into shape.”

Had Miller done any amount of research, he’d understand that Occupy members include not just college age students, but every age group including the elderly.  Members of all classes are involved in Occupy, the poor, the working class, the middle class and even some members of the 1%.  Several unions have aligned themselves with Occupy – and Frank would have a hard time complaining about unions given that his father was a carpenter/electrician and his mother was a nurse.  The efforts of unions helped place a roof over his head as a child.

And, had Frank been paying attention, veterans have been playing a very important part of the Occupy movement across the country.  It has been documented that veterans who served as far back as World War II are protesting financial malfeasance and the involvement of corporations in our political system. The first Occupier seriously wounded was Scott Olsen, an Iraqi war veteran who served two terms and came home uninjured only to be shot in the face in his own country because he dared utilize the freedom of assembly.  (There is a certain irony in Frank’s comments as he never saw fit to serve during war-time.)

And making the crack about young people living with their parents playing games – Frank, who do you think bought your work and made you rich?  Where did your money come from?  It came from good, decent “fan-boys” or geeks who lived with their parents and often, played video games , D & D and World of Warcraft.

The Occupy movement is about people who watched the stock market and banking system play craps with regular people’s money and lose.  These ordinary people lost their retirements, their jobs, their chances at their children having a better life while those who committed the crime not only got off scott free, they were given bonuses. And our representatives helped looked the other way because they were being paid to.

Miller has forgotten where he came from, who got him there and even the myth that started the journey for him.  Occupy members are the eight year-old children who just watched their dreams murdered, only this time there was a policeman who looked the other way.

And Frank Miller, the man who brought us Batman:Year One, has lost touch to such an extent that now he’s cheering for Joe Chill.

Does Frank even know what the difference between an anti corporatist movement and an antiwar movement is?

OWS isnt even really protesting the stuff he is complaining about for the most part.

This screed is so confused and misses the point so utterly, I'd think that this was self parody, but I know this dude isn't  self aware enough for that.

David Brin responded to Miller's idiot rant with, shockingly, facts and sober reasoning.

Because he has an effing brain.

BRIN'S BLOG

And, just in case you thought you knew who the Spartans were from Miller's racist, ahistorical work and its subsequent film treatment, Mr. Brin drops the real science on you.

I literally just finished reading that.

A great antidote to Miller's twisting of history as it relates to 300.

Dear Mr. Frank Miller,

Apparently, financial success can change an individual...

...and not always for the better. :-\

Frank hasn't changed; he just took the mask off. I've been pointing out his racism and sexism and facism since his DAREDEVIL days. That boy has some SERIOUS issues.

Interesting...
Although, they used to be rivals, he and byrne have a lot in common.  It's amazing that the internet can expose a lot of truths.... and a lot of falsehoods.

Got any links to any examples?  Not that I doubt you, but I didn’t have regular access to comics during Miller’s original DD run, and since then I’ve only picked up a few reprint issues; I haven’t picked up Born Again, either.. Let’s see, I did pick up the Man Without Fear TPB (cool art by J. Romita Jr.)..   On the DC side, I haven’t read Year One, but I did pick up the first Dark Knight Returns TPB.. not the sequel..
With his indie/Dark Horse stuff, I never picked up Martha Washington or Sin City..come to think of it, there’s a lot of his stuff I actually haven’t read yet.. lol..

Daredevil - the hero routinely beats and humiliates a black man who functions as his snitch.

Daredevil - creation of Elektra, the first evidence of Miller's Madonna/Whore issues.

Batman Year One - revamping Selena Kyle into a dominatrix/hooker/man-hater

Sin City - the entire thing is Madonna/whore and not particularly nice to blacks

Dark Knight Returns - Homophobic overtones with the Joker and the transgender nazi chick. And while the mutant leader was colored to be white, his dialogue is a poor imitation of hip hop/street lingo of the day. I don't know but I would be willing to bet that he was conceived as a black character and someone at DC had the sense to tell Frank to ease back on that. The joker is played as straight up gay/psychotic who is fixated on Batman as a sexual object.

DKR 2 - Catgirl is just so creepy child porny I need a bath thinking about it. Plus both versions are essentially hymns to fascism.

Holy Terror - anti-muslim diatribe in the form of a comic book.

like i said: he has't changed. he just doesn't care what anybody thinks anymore.

^^ thanks  ;)  (...I've long since sold my Dark Knight TPB, but I do remember a passage where the Joker was referring to Batman as 'darling' and such.. I thought it was odd at the time..)
