BLEEDING COOL:

Okay NOW Marvel Cancels Their Only Solo Female Character Book. And Black Panther To Boot.
Submitted by Rich Johnston on November 17, 2011 – 2:12 pm

Yesterday, Bleeding Cool stated that Marvel had cancelled their only female solo lead book, X-23.

We were wrong, and had forgotten that Ghost Rider featured a solo female lead character.

Well today we have learned that Marvel have canceled Ghost Rider too.

As well as Black Panther: Man Without Fear, ending with issue #529, the numbering it inherited from the now-relaunched Daredevil.

And Villains For Hire has shrunk from a five issue to a four issue mini-series, the third issue shipping in February.

Then PunisherMAX also ends in February, with writer Jason Aaron stating that it is ending, rather than being cancelled.

A year ago, Marvel stated that they would be reducing the amount of books they published in 2011. I don’t think this was exactly what they intended, however.

I hope T'Challa is restored to power before the MDMA title is dropped.

Just as soon as the book starting to pick up then BAM. I understand the "bottom line" but come on they have the mouse running the show now. So they are able to afford the "low tier" books to last. It is like the same old same ole. Remember those "cute" rants about Disney and their "takeover" as you have noticed not a dayum thing happened among the publishing brand. However in movies and TV great stuff. I'll get back into owning disney but right now nah.

They say that nobody is perfect. Then they tell you practice makes perfect. I wish they'd make up their minds.

I couldn't see the Disney execs not looking at the bottom line period and maybe 'helping' Marvel make the determination to cut the lower selling books and keep the money makers. It's not an issue of creativity or love of characters or the Marvel Universe that is probably motivating them, it's the money. What I wonder is if these characters with canceled books won't get just shifted to ongoing books in a way to keep their fans, because even though BP was pulling in about 17,000-18,000 readers, that's still thousands of readers that it would behoove Marvel to keep around.

For me, it sucks because they are cancelling most of the books that I buy, but my wallet says thanks I suppose.

That is my point the mouse loves to suck up money as much as they can. $67K a month isnt enough? I guess 1 mil a year is a must i guess

I think X-23 is joining Avengers Academy.

That IS the interesting part of all this.

Even now, D.C. operates as a publishing firm that has diverse product lines like Vertigo and its kid's line.

They also regularly support books that sell under 20K.

Marvel is being backed by a large corporation in the same manner that D.C. is but it doesn't seem to have changed the way that Marvel runs.
