Dear Reginald –

Rebuild the Dream is on a roll, and we wanted to share the good news with you.

Our mission this year is to help save the best of the American Dream by helping working families save a TON of money. As in, billions of dollars.

The financial sector is pulling too much hard-earned cash out of the pockets of ordinary people - leaving Americans too broke, burdened, and stressed to start new enterprises, buy new products, or otherwise move the economy forward. It is time to remove the debt blanket that is slowing down the recovery and smothering the middle class.

To stop the financial sector from killing off the American Dream, we have THREE major campaigns this spring. All of them are going super well!

1. SAVE COLLEGE GRADS BILLION$:

We are fighting to keep the interest rate on student loans from DOUBLING this summer. Congress holds the key. Victory will save eight million college graduates about $20 billion, collectively.

Our superstar, 23-year-old campaigner Molly Katchpole is on the case. (She was one of TIME Magazine's 2011 persons of the year. Her viral, online petitions convinced two corporate titans - Bank of America and Verizon - to drop plans to increase fees by $5 a month last year.)

This week, Molly delivered 130,000 letters to Congress, in partnership with USPIRG, Campus Progress, and the United States Student Association, protesting the student loan interest rate hike. Molly then joined Thom Hartmann to discuss the issue.

2. SAVE HOMEOWNERS BILLION$:

We are working to convince Fannie and Freddie to reduce the principal on underwater home mortgages. The main obstacle to doing something that will stem the tide of foreclosures is one man: a Bush holdover in the Obama administration, named Ed DeMarco. The campaign to expose and rid the government of DeMarco is snowballing. Allies including New Bottom Line have been valuable partners in this fight.

• 89,149 people have signed our petition calling for DeMarco's removal.

• Rep Barney Frank (D-MA) joined Rebuild the Dream and a slew of Democrats, including California AG Kamala Harris, calling for DeMarco to leave his position.

• Huffington Post Business Editor Peter Goodman called DeMarco’s actions “grounds for firing,” in a top-of-the-fold spread on the main site. (Our moving “America Underwater” photos are also posted on the site).

• Even the finance-industry-friendly Bloomberg News has sharply questioned DeMarco's judgment on principal reduction.

• David Abromowitz of the Center for American Progress says he supports the call for principal reduction and added to the pressure on DeMarco.

• The Washington Post ran an article about the movement against DeMarco, quoting Rebuild the Dream advisor Ilyse Hogue.

• Our Facebook ads targeting Freddie Mac and JPMorgan Chase employees are up and gaining media traction in ProPublica, and Mashable just posted a story yesterday.

3. SAVE THE PUBLIC FROM BAD IDEAS:

We are promoting good, workable, progressive economic ideas, especially through my forthcoming book, "Rebuild the Dream." Due out April 4, the book is already landing major media bookings: it will be featured in The New York Times Magazine next month, and I'm going to appear on the Bill Maher Show, among other national media hits.

We are working hard to seize the opportunity of its publishing, grow our membership, and spread the movement’s message to millions. The accompanying speaking tour, called "Rebuild the Dream Revivals," will go through battleground states - lifting up local leaders, artists and solutions.

We have a lot more work to do. But these are all great signs that the movement for middle-class economic progress is gaining momentum.

At only nine months old, Rebuild the Dream already has 600,000 members, with a presence in every Congressional District. As our programs hit their stride, I am so thankful to be part of an incredible team, with the invaluable support from progressive leaders like you.

Warmly,
Van

Hey, I just saw former Special Advisor to the Obama White House and author, Mr. Van Jones give some commentary in CNN's "YOUR MONEY" hosted by Ali Velshi and giving mention of his latest book, "Rebuild The Dream".  The Editor-in-Chief of US News & World Report,  Mort Zuckerman was also a guest.

When discussing the unemployment & economic issue during the Obama Administration, Mr. Jones' was very consistant and concise explaining all of the president's efforts to resolve the economic problem through Congress but check it out...  he quipped an analogy that made the host and his guest smile I am quite sure that came from a discussion here at HEF,

"He [President Obama] volunteered to be the captain of the Titanic after it hit the iceberg...   ...and we're still floating!" ;D
