Back On The Fantastic Voyage!
I love the Tom Joyner Cruise. It’s a well run event that is drenched in blackness. I hosted a screening of DJANGO and led a discussion, which went great but the highlights for me was a) the hang, and b) the great musical performances.
Jamie Foxx kicked it off with a variety show of a performance with music and comedy guest stars ranging from Jay Anthony Brown, Guy Torry and Kym Whitley to Tank, Little Kim, Biz Markie and Trey Songz. He seamlessly weaves comedy and music together like no one else.
Jamie is a world class total entertainer and a great guy on top of it. Afterwards, Tom Joyner told me he didn’t expect Jamie to do all that, and we didn’t know how any other act could follow him.
I also got to hang out with Mike Phillips, one of the stars of my man Steve McKeever’s Hidden Beach label. Anyone who has toured with Prince AND Cirque de Soilel has to be a heck of a performer but man I still wasn’t ready for what he brought.
He was so good I came back the next night. He straight up tore the house down.
