The Top Ten Events in Television for 2009

10. THE GOOD WIFE

I kept hearing about it, and man, it’s worthy of the hype. Beautifully written, shot, and performed. Not what I thought I would be into, but I am.

9. HBO

Larry David found a way to have his cake and eat it too. The SEINFELD reunion was so well done I don’t know what he does to top it. HUNG had a great first season and ENTOURAGE left me hyped about their reinvention. BIG LOVE is way underrated and looking forward to it starting back soon. And TRUE BLOOD is the business.

8. GLEE

I’ve dreamed of doing a show like this.

  Glee on Fox

7. MODERN FAMILY

Best new sitcom.

6. YO GABBA GABBA

Best new kids’ show.

Yo Gabba Gabba! (There’s a Party in my Tummy !)

5. RACHEL MADDOW

Best news show on TV.

4. TRUE BLOOD

Best show on TV.

3. LOUD BLACK WOMEN ARE THE NEW REALITY

REAL HOUSEWIVES OF ATLANTA, TINY AND TOYA, WENDY WILLIAMS, MO’NIQUE, I LOVE NEW YORK….

I don’t watch any of these shows, so I can’t criticize them. But damn it feels like black reality television is dominated by loud black women and their gay friends. And black women love these shows. So folks protest black women in bikinis but this okay?

2. GOODBYE BLACK TV SHOWS

The CW shuts down black night (EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS, THE GAME), BROTHERS comes and goes, and the only “black” shows starring black people are Tyler Perry’s on TNT. The CLEVELAND SHOW doesn’t even bother to cast black people in the lead. And no one cares.

1. OPRAH EXITS

On her terms, on top, after a nice even number (25 years), to an even bigger opportunity (her OWN network). She helped elect a president, launched a hit movie and had some of the hottest interviews of the year – THIS year alone.
