Soldiers

Heather Johnston sent the following link to me. It is from Slate.com and regards interviews with activists from the Civil Rights Movement.

Heather and those who put together the interviews are on point.  We should hear from these veterans and, through their historic witness, fashion a REALISTIC context for what we are, were and hope to be, as a nation.

In a country with a median age of approximately 37 years, Median-Age Joe and Median-Age Jane need desperately to know that these veterans and the likes of Fannie Lou Hamer, Medgar Evers, James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, Michael Schwerner, Daisy Gaston Bates, etc., etc., laid the foundation to make the unthinkable, thinkable on November 4, 2008 and January 20, 2009.

The old folkloric wisdom about respect for the elders still obtains:

THEY FOUGHT THE WARS IN THE HEAT OF THE DAY SO THAT WE, THEIR CHILDREN, MIGHT KNOW PEACE IN THE COOL OF THE EVE.
