Catfish Collins – Swing Down Sweet Chariot ….
Catfish Collins was Bootsy’s older brother, and played rhythm guitar in the Cincinnati band that James Brown recruited to replace the Famous Flames. Their first record with James was SEX MACHINE and they went on to make many funk classics before leaving the Godfather to go out on their own as the House Guests before being picked up by the Mothership, and eventually emerging as BOOTSY’S RUBBER BAND.
Anyone who understands funk knows that the rhythm guitar cannot be underestimated as a crucial element in the groove. Catfish joins Gary Shider as another key member of the one of the greatest bands of all time that we have lost this year.
